Ah yes, the infamous Archway Owners Meeting trip to Cabo San Lucas ...
February 1997. Tom Olin Sr. had unexpectedly passed away four months earlier. The company was engaged in an internal struggle for ongoing control. The Archway franchises were going rogue, led by new Smith Cookie Company owner Bob Albers. Even within the Olin family, there was unhappiness and discord in some corners.
This all made for a one-of-a-kind meeting. The ATV adventure on the beach yielded two casualties, when Roy Jasper and Tom Jr. both rolled their vehicles over while climbing the sand dunes. The scuba junket to the Arch of Cabo San Lucas was a near-disaster as several novice divers swam too far outside the rock formation and were nearly swept away by the Pacific rip tide.
The business meetings were not much better.
Fortunately, Tam and Tom scheduled a post-meeting vacation to Big Sur, where we stayed at the Post Ranch Inn (in the Molera cabin) perched high on the rocky cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
It made the entire trip worthwhile ...
